Description:

The Financial Controller is a critical member of the Finance team managed from the US office(s) of The Channel Company (“TCC”). They will be expected to collaborate with members of multiple functional units and across our global offices. They must be able to take a “hands-on” approach and adapt to TCC’s continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace. This position reports to the VP of Finance.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain, create, and evaluate accounting policies and procedures including system controls within company’s ERP and other financial systems.
  • Perform month end close procedures including journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Oversee global consolidation of the TCC entities including consolidated financial statements.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and annual reports and financial statements.
  • Prepare and update budget and forecast models.
  • Maintain cash balance, cash forecast, and prepare transfer requests.
  • Manage supporting ledger and information to support records of the companies, such as accounts payable, fixed assets, etc.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and governmental agencies as needed for tax returns, financial and tax audits, and/or worker’s compensation audit.
  • Oversee Intercompany balances and allocations.
  • Partner with UK team on global consolidations and intercompany transactions.
  • Perform analytical review and provide recommendations for improvements or justifications for expenditures.


Payroll and benefits processing

  • Oversee TCC’s U.S. payroll function to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll.
  • Review and approve commission and bonus payout per agreed upon plans.
  • Partner with People and Culture teams as needed to ensure all employee changes are accurately reflected in the payroll system.
  • Ensure company’s compliance with all state and federal payroll tax laws in the processing of bi-monthly U.S. payroll.
  • Maintain accurate U.S. state tax records and employer accounts.
  • Assist with the setup of new states for the company as required.
  • Regularly audit and approve benefit carriers’ monthly invoices.
  • Reconcile 401k transfers between payroll software and 401k provider.
  • Assist with the Annual 401K audit.


Accounts Payable

  • Oversee and support the Accounts Payable process.
  • Ensure 1099 compliance during vendor bill processing and perform annual 1099 filings
  • Ensure bills are coded to the projects, purchase orders or budgets as appropriate within finance and expense systems.
  • Mange company’s employee travel expense software system to ensure timely and accurate submissions.
  • General oversight of company’s employee credit card programs.
  • Provide backup support to Accounts Payable Associate.


Budgetary Support

  • Provide line support to business managers and executives as part of company’s budgeting and forecasting process.
  • Assist with the development of budgetary processes and reporting tools.
  • Provide data support to business managers regarding payroll and benefits related costs.
  • Oversee companies’ corporate services budget(s).


General Ledger support

  • Review and approve entries made by the accounting team.
  • Review prepaid amortization schedules within accounting system.
  • Prepare month end allocation entries and review entries prepared by other staff.
  • Review month end account analysis and investigate issues as needed


General

  • Participate in various departmental and cross-organizational initiatives.
  • Assist with special projects as needed.


Qualifications

  • 6+ years in a related position
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Experience managing U.S. payroll in a multi-state environment
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables
  • Self-directed and highly responsive.
  • Detail oriented, critical thinking, and inquisitive mind.
  • Strong verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to provide accurate, timely and reliable reporting.


Preferred

  • Experience with Sage_Intacct, NetSuite or other comparable ERP system
  • Experience in marketing and media agency environments.
  • Experience with project accounting
  • Experience with Rippling software or other comparable HRIS/Payroll systems.
