About the role

Reporting to the IT Operations Manager, the IT Operations Engineer oversees vital functions within the IT Infrastructure and Operations team that enable the delivery of high-quality services and technical solutions to The Channel Company. As part of a team, the IT Operations Engineer ensures the availability, performance, security, and reliability of SaaS applications and IaaS platforms. This role works closely with our managed service providers and internal stakeholders to address issues and enhance service offerings that support the business. The IT Operations Engineer also implements and maintains procedures, best practices, and runbooks to support ISO compliance requirements and security initiatives.


We are looking for a generalist with experience in a variety of environments and technologies. The ideal candidate will have had roles of increasing responsibility in areas such as networking and systems, IaaS and SaaS administration, or cyber security. We seek candidates who are experienced working in a cloud and SaaS application ‘native’ environment where the workforce is entirely remote and globally dispersed.

  • Full-time, remote, Eastern US working hours
  • Minimal travel to remote offices for projects or company events.
  • Infrequent off-hours work to support technical initiatives or respond to high-priority issues.


What you'll do

Infrastructure and Operations

  • Collaborate with managed service providers and internal staff to oversee the management, enhancement, and protection of core platforms like Microsoft 365, including Teams, Teams Phone, SharePoint, OneDrive, Intune/Endpoint Manager, Azure Active Directory, and Purview
  • Administer AWS and Azure IaaS environments, troubleshoot and resolve issues, work with managed service providers on new deployments and major changes
  • Participate in the successful implementation of infrastructure and cybersecurity projects in conjunction with internal stakeholders and managed service providers
  • Act as a point of escalation for complex or critical issues/outages
  • Leverage managed service providers to drive continuous improvements to services.
  • As part of a team, analyze existing operations and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of infrastructure and security capabilities, and the optimization of processes and operational efficiency.


Cybersecurity

  • Administer security platforms such as Sophos Intercept XDR, Arctic Wolf, zScaler, Mimecast, Cybeready, and Azure Active Directory to protect company data and assets from internal and external threats
  • Create and update well written infrastructure and security documentation, policies, and reports suitable as evidence for compliance activities and for internal reference
  • Participate in the incident response process by documenting and classifying security events and incidents. Coordinate with managed security services provider to respond to, triage and remediate events and incidents
  • Contribute to aspects of compliance activities related to ISO, GPDR, and data privacy
  • Collaborate on cybersecurity program development and execution.



Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 6 years experience in IT operations, system administrations, and cybersecurity
  • Proactive time management skills, strong ability to prioritize and effectively manage deadlines
  • Considerable experience administering a completely SaaS and cloud-based IT infrastructure based around Microsoft 365, Microsoft "Modern Workplace" concepts (Azure Active Directory, Intune, Windows Enterprise), and IaaS platforms such as Azure and AWS
  • Strong understanding of Azure Active Directory Conditional Access, MFA, and SSO
  • Experience with automated account provisioning using tools like Okta or Azure Active Directory
  • Experience managing endpoint hardware and software, particularly Windows 11 and Mac OS
  • Familiarity with computer security models such as Zero Trust architecture, Attribute-based access control, and Role-based access control.
  • Knowledge of compliance activities related to frameworks like SOC, ISO, or GDPR
  • Experience working in MDR and SIEM platforms such as ArcticWolf or Splunk, and CASB/SASE solutions like zScaler or Netskope
  • Experience with email security gateways such as Mimecast or Proofpoint, as well as with email security and delivery protocols such as SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and analyzing SMTP error codes.
  • Familiarity with SSL/TLS certificates and public key infrastructure (PKI)


Advantageous Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or cybersecurity
  • Experience working in global and fully remote organizations.
  • Microsoft security and compliance solutions such as Purview, Defender, and Entra platforms
  • PowerShell scripting and the Graph API
  • Power User level knowledge of the Microsoft 365 ecosystem of applications (MS Office, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of Windows and Linux server OS
